If your interlock pavers are sinking, you’re not alone. This is one of the most common issues we see with older patios, walkways, and driveways. While sinking pavers may seem like a simple cosmetic problem, it’s often a sign of a deeper issue—and one that should be addressed sooner than later.
Common Causes of Sinking Interlock
Poor base preparation – Without a properly compacted base, pavers will shift and sink over time.
Water drainage issues – Standing water beneath the surface can erode the foundation and cause instability.
Freeze-thaw cycles – In Canadian climates, ground movement from freezing and thawing puts pressure on pavers.
Heavy vehicle traffic – Especially for driveways, constant weight can wear down weak areas of the base.
Why DIY Repairs Don’t Last
Many homeowners try to level sinking pavers by adding polymeric sand and re-laying the same bricks. While this might look okay for a while, it won’t fix the root of the problem. Unless the base is excavated, graded properly, and compacted, the sinking will return.
At Leveled Ground, we:
Remove the affected pavers and excavate the base.
Re-grade and compact a new granular base to industry standards.
Reinstall the original pavers (or new ones, if needed).
Apply new polymeric sand and compact the surface.
It’s a long-term solution that looks great and holds up under Canadian weather conditions.
